Steven Edward Hicks was born on August 20, 1948 in Portland Oregon. He graduated from Madison High school and then attended Clatsop Community College in Astoria Oregon from 1966 to 1968, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Forestry. He also attended Oregon State University in 1968-69, where he met his future wife, Barbara Rosin Hicks.

He married Barbara Rosin on November 1, 1969 in Portland Oregon. Steve was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, charged with taking aerial photographs while at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Steve and Barbara welcomed their son, Keith Hicks, in Phoenix Arizona on December 22, 1970. Steve was transferred to Langley Air Force base in Hampton Virginia where he was the photographer for the Officer's Wives' Club. His daughter, Christine Hicks Keller, was born on February 21, 1973 in Hampton Virginia. The family moved back to Portland after his service ended in 1973.

Steve worked for Coca Cola until 1988 when he took a management position with Bar Supply Brokerage. Later, semi-retired, he took a part time job with Horizon Air and enjoyed the benefits of traveling often with his wife. He always said he loved his job the with the airlines the best and he met many good friends there.

He enjoyed hunting with a large group of friends, fishing, spending time with his grandkids and beating everyone at Mario Kart. He loved to go to the beach and he spent a lot of time planning his next trip there or to his other love, Las Vegas. He remembered fondly a trip with his adult kids to Reno. He was always looking for ways to get something free; like the ride from the airport to the hotel. He loved getting a good deal. In his later years, he was able to travel to Italy and the Mediterranean and took a River cruise on the Rhine with his wife and friends.

Steve had a way of making everyone laugh. He paid attention to what others were thinking or feeling. He always knew what to say to somebody who was sad or grieving. He gave good advice to his family and he always put his wife first. Steve loved his family and spending time with his grandkids. He was a man who always thought of others first. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed.
